The BUS CAN detector D•CAN is intended for monitoring CO, CO₂, O₂, NO₂, LPG and CNG gases for the commercial and industrial sectors. Read more

The D•CAN Gas detector (catalytic or electrochemical), using CAN bus communication, is intended for monitoring explosive gas, toxic gas, or oxygen concentration levels in underground car parks, laboratories, commercial and industrial buildings.

It is intended to work in conjunction with a compatible control unit (OCTOBUS 64) to react before the concentration of explosive gas reaches the Lower Explosion Limit (LEL). The most important detectable gases are carbon monoxide CO, carbon dioxide CO₂, oxygen O₂, CNG, LPG, methane CH₄, propane C₃H₈ and butane C₄H₁₀ as well as nitrogen oxide NO₂ (this list is not exhaustive).

The D•CAN is a catalytic or electrochemical gas detector intended to detect the presence of explosive gas in ambient air at concentrations of up to 100% of the Lower Explosive Limit. In a catalytic explosive gas detection system, alarm thresholds should be set in relation to the LEL of each gas to be detected. Alarm thresholds are typically 20% of LEL for the first alarm level (A1) and 40% of LEL for the second level (A2). These thresholds are managed by the control unit.

The D•CAN is an electrochemical detector of toxic gases and oxygen with a measurement range corresponding to the full-scale measurement value (PPM, % v/v), i.e., the highest possible concentration of gas that can be measured.

D•CANs are smart gas detectors equipped with a microprocessor. They use a catalytic (explosive gases) or electrochemical (toxic gases and oxygen) sensor whose signal is amplified and converted by the “D•BASE CAN card” into a digital signal representing the concentration level of the gas or oxygen in the detector’s atmosphere. This digital signal is transmitted to the OCTOBUS 64 alarm and measurement control unit via a CAN (“Controller Area Network”) communication bus to which are also connected in series all other BUS CAN detectors of the gas detection system.

The D•CAN comes with a flame-retardant, dust and water proof, plastic housing (IP65), and one or two Ex-certified cable glands, a sensor head and a terminal block mounted on a printed circuit board.

The D•CAN Gas or Oxygen BUS CAN detector is intended for use in commercial and industrial buildings, laboratories or underground car parks where large numbers of sensors are required. The product is suitable for use where an explosive atmosphere is unlikely to develop during normal operation or only for a short time.
The operating temperature ranges* are:

  • -10°C to +40°C (catalytic),
  • -20°C to +40°C (electrochemical).
